Magnolia flowers are among the first to burst into bloom in the spring. They evoke the warm south and have a lovely fragrance. They are also part of The Farm’s heritage, with the first magnolia having been planted in 1897.
A wonderful showing of blooms during the early spring can be seen in a group of magnolias in the north-east corner of the Arboretum. But beautiful spring displays from many species of magnolias can be seen around the Farm. (Français)
A visit to the collection at the Farm will help you choose a magnolia for your property. Here is a list of CEF magnolias that are growing at the Farm, compiled by Edythe Falconer, Ottawa-Carleton Master Gardener and Friend of the Farm. And here is a list of magnolias that will grow and are available at Ottawa, also compiled by Edythe.
