CRAB APPLE TREES

In spring time, Prince of Wales Drive through the Central Experimental Farm is transformed by crab apple trees in blossom. The 'rosybloom' series of crab apple trees was developed at the CEF by Isabella Preston. Some of these rosyblooms, planted as early as 1928, can still be found in the Arboretum and ornamental gardens.

About 200 crab apple trees and over 100 varieties can be found throughout the Farm.

For more information on the CEF, including the work of Isabella Preston, please refer to Ottawa’s Farm: A History of the Central Experimental Farm.
